Fic: Into the Void

Title: Into the Void
Author: Merlin7/clarkangel
Disclaimer: I don't own anything Hero related
Rating: Teen for language
Spoilers: Takes place after the events of Powerless
Summary: Mohinder feels like he's trapped in a void after realizing Sylar is gone and he took Nikki's chance to be cured.

This is my first Heroes fic and it's just a little muse that demanded to be heard.

Into the Void

He felt beyond exhausted, both in body and mind. His head ached and the pain could only partially be blamed on his injured nose. He was bone deep tired and it hit him as he tucked Molly into one of the beds at the Company, that he hadn’t slept in a couple of days.

All of that should have mattered, but it didn’t. The only thing he could focus on was the fact that Sylar was alive. Alive and with his powers back, and Mohinder had no one but himself to blame for that. He had been too focused on Maya coming back to life instead of paying attention to what Sylar was doing. Now Nikki would die and her death would rest squarely on his own shoulders. Mohinder wasn’t sure he could bear the weight of his guilt any longer without crumbling.

Molly was already asleep as he pressed a soft kiss to her forehead. He didn’t want her here at the Company, but right now it was safer than taking her home to his apartment. Mohinder didn’t want to risk Sylar showing up again. He had already failed to protect Molly from the killer, he would not put her at risk again. He had failed in so many ways in the past few days. He had failed so many people.

Slipping out of the room, Mohinder reached for his cell phone and dialed Matt’s number. He sagged against the nearest wall, needing it solidity to hold him upright. When Matt answered the phone, Mohinder blurted out all that had happened, pretty much without stopping for a breath. It felt better to get it all out. He was a little bit surprised that Matt was okay with him keeping Molly at the Company until his roommate informed him he was in Texas at the moment and that Nathan Petrelli was barely clinging to life.

“He’s a strong man,” Mohinder whispered.

“Yeah.” Matt didn’t sound convinced.

Mohinder wasn’t convinced either. He thought about Claire’s blood. A few drops and Mohinder knew Nathan would heal, but he didn’t have the blood on hand to offer, so he said nothing. He didn’t want to think about Claire’s blood. He didn’t want the reminder of how he had killed Bennet. It didn’t matter that he had turned around and saved the man. It didn’t change the fact he had killed him first.

“When will you be home?” Mohinder queried.

There was a long pause before Matt replied. “I’ll let you know. Give Molly a hug for me and tell her I love her.”

Mohinder could do that. “Sure,” he replied, biting his lip against asking Matt to come back now. He wasn’t sure he was capable of taking care of Molly the way she deserved. The way she needed to be cared for.

“I have to go,” Matt said, then he clicked off.

“Shit,” Mohinder hissed, as he closed his phone and let himself slide down the wall. He had never felt more alone than he did in this moment. He missed his family, he missed his home, he missed his simple life in India and he wished, more than anything, that he could click his heels and turn back time and start over again. But life wasn’t a fairy tale. At least his life wasn’t. His life was this cold empty void he was trapped in.
Heaving a sigh, Mohinder flipped open his phone and dialed Nikki’s number. He waited but she didn’t answer so he tried again, expecting the voice mail to pick up, but nothing happened. He took it as a sign that he could wait until tomorrow to call her with the bad news. He’d lost all track of time right now so for all he knew she was sleeping peacefully and he didn’t want to wake her from what he hoped were sweet dreams. Time enough to do that later.

Letting the phone drop to the floor, Mohinder drew his knees up to his chest, wincing as they pressed against his sore ribs, but the pain grounded him. He closed his eyes and let himself drift into the darkness of the void.

Maybe tomorrow would never come.

THE END

Comments

Wow, a Heroes fic! I love seeing that. I'm toying with writing for a couple different fandoms right now, but I'm not brave enough to tackle Heroes yet.

Anyway, I loved the idea here. Great job. Mohinder is an interesting choice, but then again, I like him. Glad to see a fic from his perspective.
Thanks, sweetie. I've glomped onto HEROES out of neccessity. Ya know, lack of Chase and my House hatred now. I adore Mohinder. He's my fave and it was fun dipping my toes in. I have a long/chapter fic that I'm working on that deals with Mohinder, but I figured I'd start out small! Glad you like. That means so much to me! ::Hugs::
